This depends on what PAAS are you comparing it to. But mainly when talking about Beanstalk, it reduces the amount of programming required and increases flexibility. Developers are not forced to stick to the service provider as AWS provides great flexibility and full control over your infrastructure. You can customize the applications build on it.
