The best way will be to call the customer support of GCP. Generally they reimburse the money back.

This is probably because you would have exceeded the 12 month trial period. Despite having the credits, your account was upgraded and the credits were lost. 

You cannot revert back from an upgraded account to free-trial account.

You will probably need to create another GCP account to enable the free-tier for 12 month period.
