Open new tab instead of a new window in Selenium WebDriver

I am using Selenium WebDriver.

While executing the test case every link is opened in a new browser window. How can I open all the links in just in a new tab?

The current version of Selenium do not have the ability to switch tabs as of now. Maybe in the future version we can find it out.
