How to Scroll to the top of the page using JavaScript

Question

How do I scroll to the top of the page using a JavaScript? It is desirable even if the scrollbar instantly jumps to the top. I'm not looking for a smooth scrolling.

Using javascript

<script>

  $("a[href='#top']").click(function() {
     $("html, body").animate({ scrollTop: 0 }, "slow");
     return false;
  });
</script>

However you don't need javascript  to do this. A standard HTML tag will suffice..

<a href="#top">go top</a>
