Power Pivot Data Model compared with Power BI Data Model

The data model of Power Pivot is primarily for Excel, where it could provide cross-table relationships, make DAX-based calculations, and do entry-level reporting. Smaller data sets are more suited to this application and for those who reference its working interface in Excel. Power BI, on the other hand, incorporates advanced analytic capabilities, data transformations, and better efficiency when working with huge data input sets; further, its cloud service provides real-time data refresh, collaborates with different data stores, and uses multiple sources.

Special Capabilities

It is very fast on-the-spot analysis via Excel that makes Power Pivot so powerful for users who need simple ad hoc reporting within the Excel environment. Power BI, on the other hand, offers features such as dynamic dashboards, richer visualizations, and advanced sharing features via Power BI Service, in addition to better performance on larger volumes of data and a bigger toolbox for both relationship and calculation management.

The Way to Integrate

Export your Power Pivot model from Excel into Power BI Desktop to have Power BI work with the complete logic and relationships a user has built up in Power Pivot. That gives the user the power of sophisticated visualization and reporting tools from Power BI, yet the user has developed all the logic in Power Pivot. This kind of integration is particularly useful in migrating a simple Excel-based analysis into a more dynamic and shareable Power BI dashboard.
