SQL multiple column ordering

How can I sort in several ways and by numerous columns in SQL? Sorting would be done with column 1 going down and column 2 going up.

Try this:

ORDER BY column1 DESC, column2

When the column1 fields for two or more rows are equal, everything is sorted by column1 (descending) first, followed by column2 (ascending, which is the default).
