Hi Sindhu,

You can use filters from worksheets in other sheets, dashboard and story.

In a dashboard , select a sheet to use as a filter. The filter for the sheet is applied to other sheets in the dashboard by making it global by following the below steps.

Else the filter does not effect the other sheets in the dashboard.

1.Once you create a filter in a worksheet. Right click on the filtered field and go to Apply on worksheets drop down.

2. These 4 options define the scope of the filter to be applied similar to programming languages.

3. When you want the filter applied to be global filter then select All Using this data source, then the filter is applied to all worksheets with same data source ( like public 0 or select selected worksheets to apply the filter).

Note: The same procedure above is followed for single or multiple data sources i.e select the scope of the sheet to apply filters in a dashboard.

Hope this helps you.

the actions above only help you filter out the data that comes from the same datasource. lets say in a dashbaord you have multiple sheets from different sources, how would you apply a date filter to all the data in the dashbaord? the action above dosent fit this requirement. Can you help?

Hi, @Evan,

To apply a filter to all worksheets using the current primary data source:

  • On the Filters shelf, right-click the field and select Apply to Worksheets > All Using This Data Source.

Filters that use this option are global across the workbook.

Filters that apply to all worksheets are marked with a data source icon. The filter is automatically created on any new worksheets you create after you drag a field to the view.

Any changes you make to the filter affects all of those worksheets.

You can go through this https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/filtering_global.htm for a wider vie view on that.

Hello @Evan,

Did you notice the note she has mentioned above in the first answer box!

Note: The same procedure above is followed for single or multiple data sources i.e select the scope of the sheet to apply filters in a dashboard.

I think you should go through that once.
