Incident Responders are like wizards that solve the problem. They are expected to know the system, security inside-out. They need to have high Forensic skills and quick response. Basic skills for an Incident Responder includes:

• In-depth knowledge of Operating Systems like Windows, UNIX and Linux
• Programming knowledge: C, C++, C#, Java, ASM, PHP, PERL, Python
• TCP/IP-based network communications
• In-depth knowledge of Computer hardware and software systems
• Operating system installation, patching and configuration
• Backup and archiving technologies
• Web-based application security
• Forensic software applications (e.g. EnCase, FTK, Helix, Cellebrite, XRY, etc.)

The skills important for an Incident Responder are Troubleshooting, Problem Solving, Security Analysis, Reporting, System Backup and Recovery etc. Basically, he has to be ready to solve the problem caused by hackers or security malfunction in the system. Should have excellent knowledge about security concepts and implementation.
