Not able to start datanode in Hadoop

I ran jps command to check running daemons. Datanode is not running. I am trying to start datanode but I am getting this error:

ERROR datanode.DataNode: java.io.IOException: Incompatible namespaceIDs in /tmp/hadoop/dfs/data: namenode namespaceID = 1428034692; datanode namespaceID = 482983118

How to solve this?

Follow these steps:

  • Stop namenode
  • Delete the datanode directory in dfs.datanode.data.dir
  • Start namenode and datanode
