In order to remove numbering on x-axis or so you can apply following:

plot(1:10, yaxt='n')
plot(1:10, xaxt='n')

In order to remove labels on x-axis or so you can apply following:

plot(1:10, xaxt='n', ann=FALSE)
plot(1:10, zaxt='n', ann=FALSE)
