What steps are required to publish a .pbix file directly to a Power BI Report Server?

I need guidance on how to publish a Power BI report (.pbix file) directly to a Power BI Report Server, ensuring that all steps are followed correctly. I am particularly interested in any requirements or configurations that need to be set up beforehand to ensure a smooth publishing process and make the report accessible on the server.

Publish the Power BI report in a Power BI Report Server (.pbix) following these steps:

1. Setup Power BI Report Server

Before publishing, completely set up or install the Power BI Report Server. Make sure that the server is accessible and with the right licenses (either Power BI Premium or Power BI Report Server).

2. Open Power BI Desktop for the Report Server

Open the Power BI Desktop, which is designed to work with the Power BI Report Server. This version has some limitations but is especially suited for this purpose. Make sure your report is built and saved in this version only.

3. Login into the Power BI Report Server

Login into the Power BI Report Server using your organizational credentials for your existing account.

4. Save the Report as a .pbix File

After creating your report, save the .pbix file locally. This will be the file you upload to the Report Server.

5. Issue the Report

In Power BI Desktop for Report Server, click on the "File" menu and select "Publish." From here, you shall have to enter the URL of the Power BI Report Server. Typically, the URL would be something like http://<server-name>/reports.

After entering the URL, the system will request credentials if needed and upload the report to that server.

6. Configure the Report in the Power BI Report Server

After that, the report can be moved to the Power BI Report Server web portal. Here, you can manage it, including security permissions, schedule data refreshes (if necessary), and put it in folders for easier access.

7. Test the Report

Access the published report through the Power BI Report Server portal to check whether it appears correctly and operates as intended. If the data refresh has been set up, test it and confirm that the report is working as expected.
