Reading call history in iPhone OS

Question

As I look into the viability of an iPhone application, I'm unable to locate any evidence in Apple's documentation that the app can read the call history of the phone, specifically the number or address book entry called, when it was called, or for how long.

Does anyone know if and how this is possible?

Notably, the goal is to eliminate the user's requirement to enter the data themselves. The software is used to document communications with customer care departments.
