What is a clearfix

0 votes
I recently noticed a class called clearfix in every website's code while browsing through it.

I quickly discovered from a Google search that it is occasionally for IE6, but what exactly is a clearfix?

Could you give some examples of how a clearfix is used in a layout and how it differs from a layout without one?
