Are there such things as variables within an Excel formula

0 votes

I hate repeating functions, particularly in Excel formulas. Is there any way that I can avoid something like:

=IF( VLOOKUP(A1, B:B, 1, 0) > 10, VLOOKUP(A1, B:B, 1, 0) - 10, VLOOKUP(A1, B:B, 1, 0) )

[The above is just a simple example of the problem, and not a particular formula that I'm working with.]

Yes. However, not directly.

a less complicated method

You could put Vlookup() in one cell and utilise the address of that cell everywhere it's needed. It's possible that this is the only straight way to use variables in Excel.
OR

Vlookup(reference)-10 could be defined as a wrapper function within VBE Macros. Use the function by pressing Alt+f12.
