Can one pay ICO s token to an ICO consultant

As far as I know, tokens are automatically paid through a smart contract to investors based on their token contribution. 

If I choose to become an ICO consultant, is there any way they can pay me with their new tokens they are issuing through their ICO? Is it even possible? Is there any way I can guarantee receiving the tokens? And are they able to transfer their tokens prior to their ICO to a wallet?

It is in fact possible to programmatically allocate tokens to individuals without having them contribute cryptocurrency to a smart contract. You can guarantee your payment by verifying that they have allocated their token to your compliant address in their ICO contract, assuming their ICO contract is already deployed and has your wallet address.
