Differences between Selenium and Appium

Can anybody tell me the exact difference between Selenium and Appium

I have seen lots of codes on github where they have used Appium but sample codes have used selenium webdriver elements.How do we use it together?

Following are the differences:

Appium -

1. It is used in mobile application(android & ios).
2. Having specific driver eg : AndroidDriver and IOSDriver

Selenium -

1. It is used for mobile web application.
2. It is having web driver which runs on web application.

Common Differences -

1. Both are opensource.
2. Both can be customize.
3. Both use Json-Wire protocol.

Appium:

Appium is also a automation tool used to test Mobile Applications. The platforms include either Android / iOS.
