How to configure Puppet Master

Hi Guys,

I am new to the puppet. I want to configure puppet master in the AWS EC2 instance. I have launch one Linux instance. How to configure the puppet master node?

To configure the Puppet master in your EC2 instance, you can follow the below steps.

• Install the puppet server software.

$ rpm -Uvh https://yum.puppetlabs.com/puppet5/puppet5-release-el-7.noarch.rpm
$ yum install puppetserver -y

• Now set the RAM size.

$ vim /etc/sysconfig/puppetserver

And reduce the amount of allocated RAM for the Puppet server (for example, I specified 512m instead of 2g):

JAVA_ARGS="-Xms512m -Xmx512m"

• After that set the DNS name of the puppet master in puppet.conf file.

$ vim /etc/puppetlabs/puppet/puppet.conf
      dns_alt_names= private dns of master(same m/c)

• Next, Update the DNS name in the /etc/hosts file.

$ vim /etc/hosts
    DNS name

• Now let’s start the Puppet server.

$ sudo systemctl start puppetserver
