Introducing PHP & MySQL
PHP is a powerful feature-rich open source scripting language used to develop internet/intranet/web applications, while MySQL is an equally strong open source database server built based on a relational database management system (aka RDBMS) and is capable of handling a large concurrent database connection.
Known as Development Tools, PHP & MySQL have been virtually inseparable for many years, and major groundbreaking websites such as WordPress, Wikipedia, and Facebook use PHP and MySQL technologies.
Origins of PHP
PHP was originally developed by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1995, and later the language was rewritten by Zeev Suraski and Andi Gutmans in 1997. It was in 2000 that Zeev Suraski and Andi Gutmans founded Zend Technology and created the engine behind PHP, the Zend Engine. Suraski and Gutmans were the pillars of strength that have helped PHP achieve its pinnacle success today as the widely used server-side scripting language.
